Security on the internet

  • Detecting Financial Crime

While ABN AMRO has installed extensive security systems to protect your transactions and data, 100% security is never guaranteed. The rapidly changing technology and the open nature of the internet make complete security difficult. Therefore, it is important that you also keep a close eye on your own security, especially when downloading documents and providing personal information. We recommend taking precautions to minimize internet risks, such as using antivirus software, a firewall, and the latest versions of your operating system and other computer programs.

Fake websites

Fraudsters can create misleading websites with similar names, such as abnarmo.com, and try to lead you to these fake websites via a deceptive link. Always check the exact internet address. If the address on your screen does not match https://www.abnamro.com, disconnect immediately.

Email or SMS fraud (phishing/smishing)

ABN AMRO will never ask for confidential information such as PINs, login, or transfer codes via email or SMS. Fake emails and SMS messages can appear to be from ABN AMRO, using our logo and other details. Always check the sender's email address by clicking on the sender's name. Scammers often use unclear and long email addresses.

What to do with a phishing email or SMS?

  • Never click on links or attachments in the email or SMS

  • Do not reply to the email or SMS

  • Forward the phishing email to: valse-email@nl.abnamro.com

  • Forward the fake SMS to: 097 008 101 095

  • Delete the fake email or SMS

Debit card fraud (skimming)

Scammers may ask you via email, letter, or phone to send your debit card. Also, be cautious when withdrawing money at ATMs. Sometimes they place a device or mini camera on the card slot of an ATM (skimming) or distract you while you are entering your PIN to watch your PIN or switch your card. Note: never hand over your debit card and never send it via the post.

Responsible disclosure

We are constantly working to improve our systems and processes. Mistakes can happen, and we do not want to keep them hidden. If you discover vulnerabilities in our IT systems, we ask you to work with us before making them public. This prevents criminals from misusing the information.

Secure banking

Safety is always a priority when managing your banking affairs, whether it is internet banking, mobile banking, or using your debit card. ABN AMRO does everything possible to ensure you can bank safely, but it still pays for you to remain alert at all times.
